HP Windows 7 Support Tools

As of 2010, Windows 7 is the latest version of the Windows operating system by Microsoft. Before you can install this operating system on your computer, you need to ensure that your computer is ready for the upgrade. Hewlett Packard (HP) offers free tools to help its customers with the upgrade process, and these tools provide you with information about your system, including the overall health of it.

HP Support Assistant

This tool helps you find and diagnose issues on your computer, and you can set it up to automatically update your system. HP Support Assistant is installed on all HP computer with the Windows 7 operating system, but you can also download this tool from the HP website before you install Windows 7. You can then run the Health Analysis tool within the HP Support Assistant, and this will gather information about your computer system and determine whether it is working properly. You can also use the HP Support Assistant to tune up your system, and it will suggest fixes to your computer to ensure that it is working optimally.

HP Advisor

The HP Advisor is a way to find information on different systems, including your Internet connection and security, and this will also help you determine whether your system is ready for Windows 7. You can find information about your HP warranty and manage your printer settings, including figuring out whether these printers are working optimally. Other features of this tool include assisting you with backing up items to an external hard drive, CD, DVD or your internal hard drive, showing you how much free space is left on your computer system and showing you how much battery life is left on your laptop. The HP Advisor also allows you to compare services offered by your local Internet service providers (ISPs).

Windows Update

The Windows Update tool allows you to stay up to date on the latest fixes and downloads from Microsoft, including security updates. This tool will search the Microsoft website for updates relevant to your computer and/or operating system, and it will install those updates on your computer. You can set this tool up to run either automatically or manually, but both HP and Microsoft suggest that you allow this tool to run automatically.
